I’ve just been reading through some of the action plans laid out in the Green New Deal report by the New Economics Foundation. Drawing inspiration from President Roosevelt's response to the 1929 Wall Street financial crash the report focuses on the ‘triple crunch’: a combination of a credit-fuelled financial crisis, accelerating climate change and soaring energy prices underpinned by encroaching peak oil. Authors Andrew Simms, Ann Pettifor, Caroline Lucas, Charles Secrett, Colin Hines, Jeremy Leggett, Larry Elliott, |Richard Murphy and Tony Juniper make it is increasingly clear that these three overlapping events threaten to develop into a perfect storm, the like of which has not been seen since the Great Depression, with potentially devastating consequences.
Makes for some very interesting reading and well worth the download time. If however you just want to get an overview of its contents the BBC where Andrew Simms gives his viewpoint.
