The huge fashion store Primark sacked three of its suppliers last week after an investigation for the BBC's Panorama and The Observer uncovered children labouring in Indian refugee camps to produce some of its cheapest garments. The group Labour Behind the Label is urging Primark to reverse it's decision to cut and run from it's suppliers and instead work with them to find positive solutions to the problem.

The programme has been pulled from air twice giving Primark a chance to respond to these allegations. It will now be finally aired as a Panorama Special on BBC1 tonight at 9PM

Great post, I totally agree the decision to cut and run is a total disgrace, this is a knee jerk reaction and illustrates the real values at the heart Primark.

I have never shopped in Primark because I always thought that the prices must hide an dark secret, you simply cannot charge €3 for a pair of trousers and have any ethics at all about the conditions that your workers live in. However just abandoning those workers without trying to improve their lot is wicked, many of those people depend on their wages even if they are tiny to keep them alive. If Primark charged more and had an ethical policy (even basic level) I would shop there. The cheap prices also encourage throw away fashion, wear it once and chuck it out which is totally against the way I would like to live my life.

What an amazing programme. Corporate responsibility is really in its infancy. The great thing is that these organizations are finally getting exposed, as this exposé evolves globally we should see real changes. You cant lie to the audience anymore, you never could!!
