There's some great eco-friendly consumer gadgets out there. One such is the Eco Media Player (http://www.ecomediaplayer.com/eco/home/home.asp?A953) which is a wind-up media player designed by Trevor Bayliss.

A great tool for those lazy ones amongst us is Bye Bye Standby. You plug it into your socket, and then plug you appliances into Bye Bye Standby.
Think of it as a bridge between your appliances and socket. It ships with a remote, so now when you leave a room, instead of having to dig behind the couch to get to the plug and flip the off switch on the socket, you can simply press a button on the remote, and its as if you just unplugged all appliances in the room. Costs £20, but chances are you will get that money back in electricity savings sooner than you think.
