Ask Amazon.com to provide transport-related emissions data for their deliveries and define an emissions management/reduction policy

Amazon sell to the world but get slated on the lack of an emissions management/reduction policy. Send them a message via http://climatecounts.org/scorecard_score.php?co=10 (clicking on "Raise Your Voice" )

LOL!! I just did this!! :)
I wanted to ask, 'where & how can I do this?' but then found the e-address above!! :)

    This is what I wrote:
subject: Please start tracking your packages!!

my letter: I think Amazon is a great site with wonderful books, products & info!!

It would be wonderful, if you could become the leader in environment-related things as well as already being a leader in technology, helpfulness to users, & offering a wonderful array of great products at affordable prices!

Think of it as 'being first' in eco-issues as well as everywhere else!!
You could start asking your suppliers & marketsellers & everyone else involved, transport companies etc. - asking about their CO2-& other emissions, & materials/products used, zero waste policy, recyclability... Then 'most helpful' vendors/products/options could have a separate 'green button' - 'green certified' or something.. &/or 'green info'...
so environmentaly friendly buyers could opt for better products & shipment possibilities... I would definitely use this info & button!!
(eg this shipment option uses so-much carbon & emissions.. this so-and-so... packaging is PE/PP/styrofoam/cardboard... recyclable/non recyclable.. also include product info, detailed materials used, & their recyclability, &/or link to manufacturers site with this info - eg Dell has it already, but it's hidden on the site & difficult to find... So the choices would be easier!!)

the site's already-written letter: I saw your company's score today at Climate Counts (www.climatecounts.org). Global climate change is one of the most important issues we currently face, and I believe the world's companies have a responsibility to take a real leadership role in fighting it. The Climate Counts Company Scorecard ranks the climate actions of your company and others in your sector. I consider myself one of the many climate-conscious consumers who will continue to pay attention to Climate Counts' regular reviews of your company's climate performance. I will also be sharing this information with my friends and colleagues.

Please Amazon, make an effort!! GO green!! :)

    Love,
    Layla

I don't know if they'll even get this e-mail, or if they just delete 'em by numbers.. but I think it would be a GREAT idea if ALL mail-order companies & e-shops tracked their products & their shipments.. I would definitely be interested in that info & use it.. I've tried to find 'green' digital cameras or computers before, but it proved to result in LOTS of googling, & still very little immediate info..
So, great idea!! Hope it gets pushed further!! Do this!! :))
Maybe also bug them via other addresses? Or campaigns? :)

This goal came from a question asked looking for an emissions comparison between downloading a music CD from iTunes or getting the CD delivered by Amazon.

In my answer I said that firstly the question was impossible to answer, or at least incredibly complex to answer, due to the unknown variables like the location of the buyer, the different transport methods used to transport the CD.

Secondly I said that the individual shouldn't have to ask the question, its the seller who should be providing this kind of info, I mean they know all the details of the delivery, they should be giving us the emissions figure.

The individual can already do enough in terms of working out his/her emissions due to his/her own personal transport/heating/electricity , maybe food. People shouldn't have to knock themselves out trying to figure out every last kilo of CO2 that their lifestyle emits. Count what you can, push the suppliers of services/products to do likewise.

  1. Edenbees can ask questions about this goal. If you’re an Edenbee already, log in now, otherwise you’ll need to register (it’s quick, easy and free).
  2. Can we also bug Best buy & other similar review/shopping comparison sites to start including 'green info' & 'noise pollution' (decibels!) in their product presentation & reviews? :) What do you guys think??!! 2 answers

Not a bad idea! we could set up a discussion on this and get the community to draft up a a proposal?

    2. Layla

Yeah, it would be a great idea!! - If it doesn't exist anywhere, that is! (If eg Greenpeace or the Climatecounts site or another already has a similar campaign in running or in mind, we could just join that-?)
It could also be asked or suggested to them... hmm..?
(Is anyone on speaking terms with anyone from those sites?)

I see Amazon & all shopping comparison sites & mail order companies targeted.. including eg DooYoo & Ciao & such...
& on both tracking packages & materials used/recyclability & noise levels..

not sure about the right e-mail addresses or such though... maybe someone more resourceful can dig up any relevant ones?
