With Power Meter I meant a Power/Energy Meter to measure the amount of electrical power/energy being used.
For the energy conscience consumer I found two types that are available on-line: Plug-in types to measure individual appliances and Fuse-Board Connected types to measure the total electricity consumption of a house. My goals are to give myself a better awareness of total energy consumption of my household and to be able to measure the stand-by power of individual appliances.
I think both types are a great idea, but the fuse board connected type gives you a better awareness of the total power and energy being consumed.
Unfortunately neither type can measure power less than 10W accurately according to their data sheets. So I am still searching….. -

Have a look at this page:
http://www.earth.org.uk/note-on-plug-in-power-meters-for-the-UK-REVIEW.htmlIt compares two models of plug-in meter, one of which measures power consumption as low as 1W. I have one of these and it works well.

Thanks for the info Rayrob. I had looked at the 2000MU-UK, but according to its specifications it is only accurate between 0.2…15A (46…3450W). The review suggests that it is able to measure as low as 1W, but this could be very inaccurate. Nevertheless it’s the best one I can find so far and I will buy one to verify it with some calibrated test equipment. I will post the results and hopefully this will be helpful to other Bee’s.

I recently purchased some energy monitors to measure and hopefully reduce the energy consumption in the home and businesses.
The Owl http://www.theowl.com/ and the Efergy http://www.efergy.com/en/index.php are the two units I chose.
I really like the Owl for the following reasons,
Nicely made
Good display
However, it doesn’t record the energy consumption. This is a pity as this feature makes the Efergy a winner, despite it being of inferior quality. With the record of energy consumption, one can look back and see if ones efforts have paid off.
This feature in the Owl would make it the clear winner. I understand from Owl that they will be introducing this feature in the next model.
