To properly conserve fuel, you must understand exactly how your car operates. The exact process may differ from vehicle to vehicle.

To Spielberger, defensive driving using less fuel than offensive driving, so it doesn't make sense to criticize reasonably good advice with multiple examples that have unique or no bearing. Of course... it neither makes sense to assume everyone knows a particular bit of information, especially regarding fuel injection, so I'm probably giving you too much credit when it comes to sensibility.

      Numb nuts!!!
Coasting uses fuel. By leaving the car in gear and using the break to slow down you are using no fuel. This was on top gear a few weeks back and is illustrated in cars that have an electronic fuel gauge.
For example, on the motorway doing 120 km, take your foot off the gas in gear you are using no fuel, pop it out of gear and the engine has to work to stay ticking over instead of using its own momentum. Geeez! Thought everyone knew that. Save fuel stay in gear as long as possible and dont drive like a boy racer and keep wind resistence to a minimum (close windows, no roofracks or falgs).
      Thanks for listening guys.
