I agree with James, tackling huge issues as an individual is futile. I really believe that if I change the way I live and behave, I will influence those around my, by example! Start small, baby steps and all that. When enough individuals come together on the same issues, the world will change.
So it requires personal responsibility & accountibility, and forums and groups like this one. -
Ideas about saving the planet can be found here. Seriously worth watching....

When trying to save the world, and figuring out what to do, it is important to make sure you have a wicked soundtrack.
Don't buy CDs, but download some tunes, much better for the environment.
So to Help, Heres a link with a couple of mixes, just enter an email address and you can download 2 hours of great dance mixes!

Perfect back tunes to be creative and support those amazing ideas we will have to save the planet, with big and little things we can do -
I totally agree James, the Story of Stuff is an excellent explanation of the current system and a pathway to a more efficient and equitably way of living. Keep the posts coming James:-)

Saving the world is the biggest challenge that any of us will ever try. People have known that the world needs saving for some decades and things have got worse. This tells us something important - that the ways we've been trying to do it don't work. If everyone just tries to do what they can, in their own neighbourhood or company or country, it's not enough and the world doesn't get saved. When people try to influence big issues that affect everyone, they find an endless series of obstacles. Each unsustainable piece of the puzzle resists change. My suggestion is that the world probably can't be saved one piece at a time. Less bad is not good enough. I'd like to make it easier for people everywhere to take part in saving the world as a whole, by looking at things differently. For example all the big problems are connected, which means that the right kinds of solutions could fix them all at the same time. This could happen faster than anyone can imagine. For a fun view of the connections and the potential for reshaping how things happen please see the cartoon at www.storyofstuff.com. For ideas how to make this reshaping happen fast please see www.blindspot.org.uk/briefing.html. In future I'd like to see all this info presented even more simply so that when people want to save the world, they see not obstacles but a series of open doors and opportunities.
Please take a look at these sites and tell me what you think. Who wants to live on a saved 'circular' world?

Who's going to be first to mark this goal as 'completed' ? ;-) 8 answers

I see Alexander Gorny has done it already!
But just in case the world still needs a bit more saving, it would be good to see sites like this helping with big (systemic) changes as well as DIY changes. For example, stories can currently only be offered after goals are achieved.

Hi James a valid point, we will be looking to update this feature to allow stories to be added even if you have not completed the goal, thanks for pointing this out. :-)

james
Splendid! Keep up your fine work.

This has been sorted now James please feel free to add stories where and when you feel. Good to have you on board.

Thanks - I'm keen to read what people think of this first 'save the world' story.

Hi Coni
Yes, it should be fun saving the world! Doing stuff that suits us is a great way to warm up to the big goal of saving the world. Most people think that saving the world is too hard and too big. I like to think that almost everyone is ready for a change to a world that works. All it takes is enough people talking about how to do it. The story of stuff shows us that this isn't complicated - it's a shift of awareness, as you say.
Then governments will start to shift too and talk about how to get circular economics. It's big but it's not too hard.
Well done passing on the storyofstuff.com link. You've started saving the world already! -

Good stuff James, your informed comments and references are thought provoking to say the least. Saving the world through conscious communication. Keep it coming!

Thanks Bee. One of the fun things about dealing with problems all joined up rather than one at a time is that anyone can see and take part in the solutions. We don't need to become experts in every problem before we can say anything. The experts have had 35 years to find workable solutions and they haven't. I reckon it's time for regular people like us to add saving the world to our list of goals. Before long I bet many of the experts will take part too!

I'm on a UN forum that was asked more or less this question. This was my answer, at http://www.blindspot.org.uk/unitednations.html. In essence it's about changing the economic rules of the game.

Thanks James, I look forward to reading through that. :-)
