Pass my magazines on
Whether it's 'Vogue' or 'Watching Paint Dry Weekly', give it to your friends or colleagues when you're finished reading. Save money by splitting the cost and save trees by reducing the print run. Of course if you have no takers for 'Watching Paint Dry Weekly' you can always use it to line the hamster's cage. Nibbles will be very grateful.

And if hamsters aren't your thing and you have birds instead, I'm sure Freddie and Teddy your matching cockatoos will love your old magazines.
I've also seen them recycled to become cellulose insulation that gets sprayed into the attic or walls of houses. Or you can hold a kids craft fair and use them to make papier mache projects. Mom and Dad will love you for yet another crafty project they have no place to put to show off their junior Da Vinci's art skills.
I've even seen a guy that uses them in conjunction with spray paint to make magnificent art.

I guess places like doctors surgeries always have a need for magazines in their waiting rooms

If you can't find friends or colleagues that want your magazines, public libraries often have a place for magazines in the spirit of "leave some, take some."
And if you have really been a packrat with the magazines, you can consider offering your boxes of mags to your local Freecycle group.
I have also seen such things offered on my neighborhood email list.
